Celebration under a walnut tree on the occasion of roofing the Rabah Hotel building in the 1950s. Rabah Hotel was one of the first hotels in Ramallah, Palestine and brought a number of new innovations to the city starting with the first TV, the first elevator, and the first central heating system of its scale. People from the city used to gather at the hotel to listen to Jamal Abdelnasser speeches and Um Kalthoum concerts.
The hotel is now closed, but the building still exists and hosts a number of businesses and offices.
I was happy that some of my friends, after posting these two photos to my facebook timeline, could recognize a grandfather or a relative. I thought this was a nice piece of history worth sharing with friends.
